The Song is called
After the Goldrush written by yet another talented Canadian Neil Young.
It was inspired by a Dean Stockwell screenplay that was never aired. Stockwell got his inspiration from
these people. They believe that the designers will come back to collect some of their seed.Stockwell was Neil Young's hippie neighbour for a short while. He stars in the TV show Quantum Leap.
Tall, dark Canadian sings an 'extraterrestial folk song'.

I met a man from Mars.

And played me traveling songs.Mars?
Here's a bit of speculation for you.
Race of intelligent beings once lived on Mars (first postulate, prove wrong - theory is wrong)
Conditions on Mars became untenable to sustain life because of changes in sun's radiation. This highly advanced race had to leave to find a new home. There's one place nearby but because of volcanic activity there was a large carbon monoxide content in the atmosphere. That place was later called Earth.
Needed to create life on Earth in order to break down the atmosphere. These beings came and seeded plants and bacteria onto Earth. This would in fact take billions of years so would it be beneficiary to do this?
Answer is yes.
If you flew at just under the speed of light time on board the craft would slow down. Time on Earth would progress at a faster rate. With a correct trajectory you could arrange to arrive on Earth when everything was up and running. Everything on the craft would appear at rate where one could live for billions of Earth years. However looking back at Mars from Earth everything would appear dead. As indeed it does.
However there's another problem. The intelligent lifeforms were not adapted to unassisted existence on Earth. A new life form had to be created from creatures that had evolved to live on Earth and where the DNA of this race from Mars could be planted.
That race is called Man.
PS Do I believe this?
Nope! However everything here conforms to known science. You cannot travel faster than light. At the speed of light time stops and space is condensed into a single point. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand Einstein's Relativity. Which started out as a Theory and is now a Principle.
Fermi (Atom bomb scientist) said that there are no aliens here because they would be everywhere. Well Enrico look around you they are everywhere. They aren't Alien of course.
Great movie, written by Carl SaganYes Roscoe I love that Movie too
As for traveling to other planets NASA has done it
we have had Rover and Spirit on Mars for over 6 years

Rejoice in the Sun ....in the movie Silent Running
the whole idea of planet seeding
at Rennes Chateua they have a megalith at the mayors office in a Shelter
it definitely has a cup marking
thanks to the Perillos site for the great photo

this dates back to 4000 to 4500 BC

Large cup and ring petroglyph at the 'Laxe das Rodas', Galicia, where hundreds of stations are know
the rings or circles are seen on many ancient tomb sites
Cup and ring marks or cup marks are a form of prehistoric art found mainly in Atlantic Europe (Northern England, Scotland,[1] Ireland, Brittany , Portugal and Galicia (North West Spain)[2]) and Mediterranean Europe (North West Italy, Thessalia Central Greece, Switzerland) although similar forms are also found throughout the world including Mexico, Brazil, Greece, and India,[3] where the oldest cup marks so far recorded are to be found in the Paeleolithic cave shelter site of Chattan.
They consist of a concave depression, no more than a few centimetres across, pecked into a rock surface and often surrounded by concentric circles also etched into the stone. Sometimes a linear channel called a gutter leads out from the middle.
The decoration occurs as a petroglyph on natural boulders and outcrops and also as an element of megalithic art on purposely worked megaliths such as the slab cists of the Food Vessel culture, some stone circles and passage graves such as the clava tombs and on the capstones at Newgrange.

Just like the crop circles language we don't understand it
