Some say that the use of heraldry originated with the marrige of

Henry I to Adaliza of Louvain who are pictured above.

There is a painting, 'Crucifixion with the Madonna, St. John and Two Mourning Angels' at the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford currently being evaluated as a likely work of Michaeangolo. It has the layout with the skull at the base of the cross as displayed in Sauniere's Church statue of Mary Magdalene with the skull next to her foot. It is only 12 by 27 inches but they are talking about 100 million pounds value. Probably means the currency is decreasing in value. In the design Michaelangelo and Sauniere both new what they were doing as did Poussin.

It`s the one on the right. How did Mary Magdalene disappear during the cleaning?

The woman one the left is also different.

Thanks Sheila, I forgot, the one on the left is a copy and the one

on the right is the original. Why is it so different? From Sheila`s link:

"Here's a detective story worthy of Fake or Fortune? According to Italian scholar Antonio Forcellino, he has found a lost Michelangelo painting in the University of Oxford residence Campion Hall: Crucifixion With The Madonna, St John And Two Mourning Angels. It was thought to be by Marcello Venusti. Since its "discovery" it has been removed to the Ashmolean Museum for safekeeping (title link). I wasn't impressed by the graphic posted by the BBC, so I did a little image Googling and found two more versions of this Crucifixion. On the left is a superb black chalk drawing by Michelangelo held in the British Museum (CLICK). In the middle is a copy of the Michelangelo ascribed to Vittoria Colonna (CLICK). On the right is the Campion Hall painting by Marcello Venusti (CLICK). If you view all three paintings, you'll see that the anatomy and posturing in the Venusti copy is pathetic. Sorry, Antonio. It's a bummer."

Image

So the blog author is saying that Colonna and Venusti both used Michelangelo`s sketch as the basis for their Crucifixion painitings? That makes sense.
