For Caledfwich . I do not think i am being inconsistent .I am suggesting there could be other explainations for the apparantly sinister goings on in highgate cemetery, and also the strange experience iwent through in a cemetery near where i live. Why shouldnt there be spirits or guardian forces that protect graveyards? Why does everything have to be evil? Its a very old place.Who are we to call evil all the strange and many primeval forces that surround it?These forces have been there probably, since the beginning of time and will be there long after we have gone. You only get your knickers in a twist because you are frightened of what you dont understand .What is the point of this "nest of vampires"?Why are they there?Did any of them have a job or purpose? No seriously they must have had a purpose other than going round biting people.I mean thats hardly an end in itself is it? what did they do when they werent biting necks, sit around chatting and smoking fags? The bishop could have started off more sensibly by trying to find out why they were there, instead of reacting hysterically. You talk of vampires and demons and evil,How incredibly negative ! It is a miserable ,pessimistic view of life. If you go around looking for these things im not surprised you find them .You certainly look hard enough. Hasnt anyone ever told you life reflects back at you what you give out? If you didnt look for evil you wouldn find it.
Why are you making your alternative, irrelevant suggestion when you were not alive at the time and therefore did not research or investigate the case while those who did, eg Peter Underwood, Bishop Manchester and others, supported the vampire theory. The bishop and his associates actually made discovery of the vampire. As did others. Then there are the witnesses and victims. What they described (filtering out the fraudulent) was a vampire. Why do you feel compelled to say that there must be another explanation when there was no other explanation at the time?
Why shouldn't there be
"spirits or guardian forces"? I am not saying there shouldn't be such forces, but would such forces attack and kill? That is what the Highgate Vampire did.
The question you should be asking is:
Why shouldn't there be vampires?Obviously not everything is evil, but vampires by definition are.
I am not frightened of what I don't understand. You are frightened of what I
do understand.
"What is the point of this nest of vampires?" you ask. To someone, like yourself, who does not believe in such things it would have little point. To someone who believes in their existence they are demonic and evil. They parody what is angelic and good and they do so with evil intent. This would make sense to a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu and some others. But clearly not to you.
You speak about vampires as if they are humans with human attributes. They are not. They are considered to be demons with demonic attributes.
How did Bishop Manchester
"react hysterically"? You offer no explanation for this slur. You say he should have found out what they were. He did. He even wrote a book about them explaining in detail precisely what vampires are. I recommend it to you. The book is called
The Vampire Hunter's Handbook.
What I find more
"miserable" and
"pessimistic" is to live a blinkered life in perpetual ignorance. Rose-tinted spectacles will not help when dealing with evil when it comes knocking at your door. You don't need to seek evil. It invariably finds you. The victims of the Highgate Vampire didn't go looking for it.
It found them!
