Hi guys. Just a brief email to say that Patrice has recently returned from Girona, where she was finalising logistics for an upcoming tour (the first of many) and a film version of City of Secrets.

Part of the trip included a candid video interview with Jose, so fingers crossed that will surface at some point. The film maker, who I have met - and who is a very good guy, and very knowledgeable - was blown away with Jose, his insights and level of 'initiation'.

Patrice has also agreed to do a guest article for Arcadia on Henri Buthion, who as we know followed on from Noel Corbu as the curator of the Domain in RLC. Patrice knew Henri well and has many old pictures of him, so I look forward to that very much.

That’s all – just a brief update. I will see Patrice Thursday night for diner so let me know if there is anything you would like me to ask her.

Best,

Andrew

Hi Roger. Yeah, I agree. It is not sure if the footage was for the film or just for prosperity, I must say. I agree it’s very ironic, as from what I understand the society were VERY present and the film maker actually felt a bit endangered. I have also heard there has been a change in leadership of the society and that the new team are pretty protective...

If this thread disappears you know I've gotten in trouble from Patrice or worse lol

Best,

Andrew

Andy, can you ask her if she knows what happened to Henri Buthion,s wife and children please? i know something about some sect or other but it was just a brief mention and nothing conclusive.
Did he ever reconcile with them after he sold the villa?

Tingra, hi. I hope you are well!

I will ask her, thank you.

Do you refer to the Ordre du Temple Solaire (OTS)?

Best,

Andrew

Hi Paula, nice to see you here. Hope that you are ok.
Personally I've never really got into the whole Girona side of things, mainly on the lack of data excepting Patrice's work. Hopefully this new material should answer some of the lingering questions about the "society" and maybe give us more of an insight into Sauniere's supposed connections etc.

Hope it's not too late. I have two questions for Patrice.

1.) When Wolf says 'Eco released information in his books' that he shouldn't have what does this mean? Specifically what information? :D How did get away with it?

2.) City of Secrets and the to be released book deals with preparing and releasing information not previously in the public arena. What is this release based on? For instance - prophecies, covenants, organisations. And to what end? What do you think this release will accomplish?

First, Eco made cruel and very witty fun of almost ALL esoteric sects and their "secret" initiation-based "secrets". It's entirely plausible that "Wolf" took umbrage at something in which he thought he recognised his own crew.

How did he get away with it? What "sect" would get up and scream "those ridiculous buggers you made fun of, in your book, that was us! You revealed our "secrets", and we're suing!"????

They're likelier to STFU and skulk off to lick their wounds, aren't they?

Sometimes you've got a wicked sense of humour Roger and apparently a mouth like a sailor.

Hi guys.

So, I had an interesting dinner with Patrice last night. She's doing well and said hi...I took her on the forum and on her face book page so she was quite blown away with all the discussion.

I learned that Jose was not video interviewed, although there were video clips taken. Jose was interviewed by the film maker, and I understand that was recorded on audio. I also understand that José went into detail about how Sauniere entered Girona from the back gate so as not to be seen, etc.

As for Henri Buthion, Patrice does not believe that his family and he were ever reunited. We spent about 45 minutes going through stacks of photos but could not find the Buthion ones, so Patrice will try again today.

While I did not catch the post about Eco and the Wolf, etc, I will speak to Patrice today (we speak most days) and ask her. Thank you.

She did say that the new order of the society are tough, and that one 3-piece suit chap made her and the film maker very uncomfortable and had the owner of the restaurant take their picture for him.

Patrice also shared a drawing of the magic square of the Bear, which will be a huge part of the new book and tour. Very impressive work. Very interesting.

Prepare for a return of the magic squares...; )

Best,

Andrew

I hope we can get as many interviews with Josep as possible.

I don't think he's much longer for this world, and I'd like to hear some things from his own mouth, just to confirm Patrice's claim that "this is what Josep told me".

I believe her, somewhat, but confirmation would be nice.

It's not a criticism, more a considered comment. For what it's worth, I am in Seeker's camp as well, so she can be double chuffed.
Were it a worthwhile exercise (which I don't believe it is), I am sure we could swell that camp to a considerable number.

A villa in Girona.

Does she have a producer for CoS? That is terrific news! Jose wanted the secrets out

because he didn`t want his son to be under the control of the Society the way that he

himself was, who can blame him? How the forum would like to interview Josep!

We believe Patrice, her word is enough for us. Was her RLC vist cancelled because of the alert?

In the back of Andrews magazine there is a short article by Patrice Chaplin called “The Altarpiece”. She discusses that while supporting Philip Coppens and Kathleen McGowan on a visit to Gerona she unexpectedly received some material from the guardian of the “society” that she mentions in her previous work. She explains that Kathleen and herself were given a photocopy of an altarpiece still in existence which was said to come from the French woman’s house, you can probably guess that this is the same altarpiece present in the church of Rennes le Chateau. She then goes onto question whether Sauniere had it produced IN Gerona or whether he took his altarpiece FROM Gerona, a replica was allegedly given to a member of the society for safekeeping. Patrice ends her article with........."The priest had come to Gerona for the Tower, was this another link in the journey? Has it been made public now to claim Gerona’s right to its origin?"

Considering how much bandwidth has been spend on this altarpiece on here and various other websites it seems a bizarre notion to try to link it to Gerona without any evidence to support her theory, it seems to me that she is still desperately trying to make links between RLC and Gerona that never stand up to scrutiny.........

Has anyone else come across this link before? Has it been mentioned on here and I have missed it?

No, this one.....she calls it the altarpiece.

This from the facebook link...

An altarpiece in the French woman's house with the tower has now been brought to light. A photgraph of what years ago had been placed in an enclave in part of her still exising wall links, once again, this house to RLC. The altar piece of the Magdalene is the replica of the one still present in the RLC church and dates from approx 1900. It can't be in two places at once. Was it first in the French village or Gerona?

Said to be painted by Sauniere, it appears to be based on the work of an earlier artist in the mid 19th century. It is not so much the artifact, but who finds it. The bearer of this copy would certainly not be someone who would idly present this find. Although RLC has in the last years been keen on attention, Gerona is not, so what point is there in outing this material?

what is the point indeed? :D

Well we know Sauniere ordered his terracotta religious kitsch from the old family firm, Giscard and Co. of Toulouse, which began in the mid 19th Century. Presumably this is also the origin of this thing.

From the Giscard Family Archive (translation by Bing):

Giscard family has over four generations, worked essentially Terra cotta Toulouse and with what talent!

It is Jean-Baptiste (1824-1906) who created the Giscard institutions after beginning his career as a moulder/statuary in Virebent, another large family of architects and Toulouse statuary. In October 1858, he was granted permission to establish an oven and began producing ornaments facade and religious art for his own account.

His son, Bernard Giscard (1851-1926) directed the institutions during the period which concerns us. Sculptor of great talent, he developed the company engaging in the manufacture of a wide variety of cross, statues, altars, chairs... Then, after war, monuments to the dead!

Henry (1895-1985) was also statuary and contributed to the artistic development of the production facilities. Henry had obtained a scholarship to the École des beaux-arts of Paris, after that of Toulouse, and a second prix de Rome. He succeeded Professor Henry Virebent as teacher at the Beaux-arts and knew him also enjoy late 1920s a new desire to re - decorate churches.

Joseph (1936-2005) he also was the fine arts, and he was the last representative of the line which became extinct so in 2005. He had the wisdom to save much of mussels with Virebent and took care throughout his life to preserve the best many archives of his family while other statutory saw their family heritage go up in smoke. Unfortunately all was not forwarded to the Municipal Archives and some records of correspondence lack including us.

I would guess that the bas-relief is probably a Giscard piece, although it was a gift from a wealthy légitimiste, Madame Marie Cavailhé. donated a few years before the major renovations, thus not part of Saunière's order.

Le bas relief de l'autel n'est pas de Giscard, mais d'une maison rivale.
Un modicum de recherche dans les forums Francais, permettra de verifier la provenance de cette horreur.
