Hi everyone, I just wanted take this opportunity to mention that I have posted a new ‘17 Questions Interview’ with the leading Egyptologist, David Rohl:

http://www.andrewgough.co.uk/17questions_rohl.html

David and I traveled to Rennes-le-Chateau together, amongst other places, such as Egypt, and I know you will find his insights to be unique and refreshingly candid. David Rohl is one of the premier researchers of our time, and many have likened him to the 'Real Indiana Jones'. His impressive body of work, which consists of books, documentaries, conferences and tours, will soon include historically themed progressive rock. One thing for certain, Rohl is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers.

Best regards,

Andrew

Thanks for this Andy. Interesting interview. Would love to know more and I hope for at least one more book from him, maybe, on the Cup of St Lawrence, Spanish angle. People DO still read books, and I'd buy that one! He just has to write it...

Hi,

You can get to it if you go to the Home page and in from there...

This should work -

http://www.andrewgough.co.uk/17questions_rohl.html

I think it was Andy with his diligent punctuation - putting a full stop at the end of the link!

Hmm...I havn't read any of this chap's work but I have read and am fully conversant with Immanuel Velikovsky's work like "Ages in Chaos"...so will do some reading up on this...especially anything dealing with Avaris and the eastern boundary wall.

It is not a comfortable place to visit, never mind investigate

I met David Rohl many years ago .... he signed one of his earlier books for me. Nice chap.

I didnt realise he was interested in RLC. Perhaps it is just a passing interest?

I have never heard anyone describe the RLC area as 'not a comfortable' place to visit. I wonder what he thinks is uncomfortable about it??

I find it a beautiful place. And like he, i studied archaeology at Uni ..... i wonder if David ever considered whether historically the idea that a lost Visigothic haul might one day be found in the Rennes area is possible????

Of course, all things are possible .... but an archaeologists dream if a haul is still waiting to be found. And for me, that makes the Rennes area a wonderful palce, 'not an uncomfortable place'

If David means the witchs and warlocks make the place uncomfortable then i would agree : )

Yes. I agree. The only time I ever found RLC anything other than delightful was going into the church and finding it full of fat American hippies all chanting and shouting hippyshit.

I like your "17 questions" interviews, Andy, but they rarely seem to give me a real taste of what peoples' ideas are.

Yes - I know - go out and buy the books. I know, I know. May I be flogged and say a few mea culpas if I get them in the library instead?

The one thing I get out of this is Mr. Rohl is a supporter of the New Chronology.

Here's some places where that is spelled out.
http://www.egyptologyonline.com/a_new_chronology.htm
http://debate.org.uk/topics/history/rohl-1.htm
http://www.domainofman.com/ankhemmaat/rohl.html

For some reason, though, I thought the "New Chronology" actually anteceded Rohl, and was actually promoted by people like Immanuel Velikovsky.
http://www.sis-group.org.uk/rev6-1.htm

I'm not an Egyptologist, so forgive me for asking this.

I guess the most interesting import of all this is Rohl claims to have resolved problems many Biblical archaeologists have with the dating and historicity of the events in Exodus. IIRC, though, Velikovsky tried to shift Egyptian history and dynasties by about 800 years, and Rohl only seems to want to nudge it 300, not quite as much.

I'm not necessarily dismissive, but then I'm not part of the academic Egyptological establishment, either. I'm mostly at the point where I'm curious to know more.

Yes, I know, go buy the books.

Interesting observations guys, and thanks for the feedback Seeker. You're right, Immanuel Velikovsky is one of the earlier chronologists, but Rohl has taken certain very specific elements of archeological evidence, predicated on first hand investigation - not hearsay, and has created a revised dating of some elements of Egyptian and other ancient civilization.

I tried to lift it out of him, but sadly it’s a huge question to answer in an interview – how one came to a conclusion on the dating of an event or person. His lectures are amazing, and there is one in September, in Redhill England that I am going to. Come along; )

And I have no doubt that he is onto something pretty cool with the Spanish connection – I remember him talking about it a few years ago.

Anyone want to guess how many times Spain is mentioned in the bible? There is a trivia questions for you? Or should I say trivial?

Cheers,

Andrew

Also note that it was V. who proposed the date for the Exodus as 1447bc...at the end of the middle kingdom. The Pharaoh is the Tutimaios of Manetho, (The Pharaoh who lost his country)...the Dudimose in the King's List of the Turin papyrus.
This is the dating now accepted by Rohl, Peter James, John Bimson...anybody got any Rohl books for sale, I would love to read them.

If Tarshish doesn't float your boat ...then the answer is once...spoken by the Liar, in one of his epistles.
