Philippe Marlin has just posted that John Millar, chairman of the Sauniere Society and much more, has died.

Sad news. John Millar was also the father of Chris Millar, better known as Rat Scabies, and he featured quite a bit in Chris Dawes wonderfully entertaining book, Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail. He sounded like a very interesting chap, and was once memorably described by Andrew as part of the old RLC "Rat Pack". He must have had some good stories to tell, I should think. Sorry to hear that he's passed away.

Presuming this story is correct,i can only say how shocked and saddened i am by this news. I only knew John through Sauniere Society Meetings and one memorable trip to Rennes le Chateau, where he and Joy were brilliant hosts. Sad news indeed.

I found this out only the other day and "coincidently" had been speaking about him to someone in RLC, about what a striking man he is/was and how nice he seemed.
Sad indeed. Thoughts with Rats and family

Sorry to hear this sad news. I would have liked to meet John as he has done a lot for the RLC community. My thoughts also go out to his family and friends.
Regards
Nic

Just found out the very sad news. I'm grateful to John and Joy for the Sauniere Society, which has enhanced my knowledge of, well let's say, subjects you don't get taught at school or in mainstream education either. John was an atheist but if there is such a thing as divine justice he will be dwelling in Valhalla alongside his esteemed Richard Wagner.
John was a remarkable, eloquent man, a polymath if there ever was one.
