Just a small request.

My cousin is getting married in May. She loves France....she has a phd in French Literature.

As part of her wedding gift, I would like to give her some framed prints of France, but don't have any pictures of my own.

I was wondering if some of you had pictures that you could share?....city, town or countryside; anything would do. I'm not necessarily looking for anything a tourist would normally take a picture of.......however, I think it would be really cool if I could include something from RLC.

These pictures would not be published in any way, shape or form.....just framed and given as a gift.

If you have pictures to share, just PM me for my email address....

Thanks in advance ya'll....

6. Bonded By Baseball
It’s not whether or to what degree my fiancée likes baseball that is important to me; it’s simply that we would neither have met nor made our bond without it. I met Heather because she had been to a Durham Bulls game about a month after I started covering the team. In the stands, she met the owner of the bar/restaurant where I sometimes work, and he invited her to come in for a drink sometime. A few nights later, she did, and I happened to be tending bar.

Not long after I met Heather, I told her to come say hello to me in the press box next time she came to a game, I said that I’d try to come down and join her in the seats behind home plate, which is where I usually sit, anyway. (The press box at Durham Bulls Athletic Park is a little up the first-base line; you get a better read on the strike zone and the action on the pitches from the seats—plus you get an up-close view of plays at the plate and batters getting tossed by umpires for disputing called strike threes.)

And one thing led to another. Since May 2009, Heather and I have watched around 100 baseball games together. I’d venture to guess that we have spent more of our waking hours together watching ballgames than we have spent doing anything else: about 300 hours sitting side by side, watching, listening, talking about baseball and everything else under the sun (and lights). Our love’s melody has been built on the sustaining, contemplative rhythms of baseball.

My game stories are long, involved and wide-ranging. I try to make them accessible and interesting to a broad readership, but what I’m really doing when I write, in the small hours of the morning after a game, is continuing an ongoing and rich (and I hope lifelong) vernacular conversation with my fiancée. Every writer pictures his readers. It’s Heather I see reading me. She is thus not only my ideal audience, she is actually part of my voice as a writer. I don’t know how I could be any closer to anyone, and I could never have been that close to her without baseball. —Adam Sobsey

Wow rain, those are really pretty. I especially like the black and white.

Where did you get those, and do you think I could use them?

Two suggestions:

This site is a treasure trove of photos of France. I don't think I've seen any of RLC but there are many wonderful ones...for anyone wanting to know more about France but not wanting to get lost in the verbage, I recommend this site. The separate section on Paris is equally grand--and a great way to discover out-of-the way places that the guidebooks never mention.

Still not RLC, but wonderful images of Ariege...

Even if you don't use any of them, I'm sure you'll like seeing the area this way.

Egi,

I cannot save those pictures (can't right click on 'em, they say they are copyrighted).

Is there some way I can print the pictures from the website?

I've got a little bit saved just for the occasion, if I don't need the money for an emergency. I'm a bit scared of traveling abroad alone, so......it will still be some time before I get to take my trip. <sigh> In the mean time, I have plenty of grass to mow and lots of (spring) cleaning to do.

Thanks again to everyone for the lovely pictures!

I am having a great deal of fun putting this gift together. My cousin is very eclectic; the china she has chosen is traditional country while the candlesticks and vases are very modern (chrome).

So, I am putting the pictures in 'chrome' picture frames. The matting around the pictures is going to be French script (Le Serpent Rouge) in diferent shades of blue (to match her china) on vellum paper.

I'll post pictures of the pictures when I get them done. I'm in the process of painting the frames now.

Wow, thank you Gabriele! I am saving those to favorites to look at later when I can take my time.

Yes, there is. You click firstly on "actions" and there on "all sizes". Then you can right click on them and save them. They aren't copyrighted.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the pictures.

I did not go to my cousins wedding.

I'm a coward.

When I told my mother I was going, the next words from her mouth were "Good, I'll stay in your room then."

I figured the best way to avoid conflict was to just stay home, and that's what I did.

However, the idea for the pictures with the text as border was a very good idea and I'm going to finish the project. The only problem I have currently is that the computer I was doing the work on has issues; the display driver crashed.....so, I have to wait until I get that machine fixed.

Thanks again everyone!

My family in particular is extremely hard to live with. (With family like this, who needs enemies?)

And for some reason, it's been a hard season to get projects completed also. My second summer project was painting 2 tubs white and adding soil and flowers to put on the fronch porch....which got destroyed in the storm Friday. I think I have saved the flowers, but I hate having to do everything over, and over.

The 3rd summer project, I think, is doing okay at the moment.....I haven't taken any pictures of it yet because I have been waiting for the flowers to bloom. AND I haven't cleaned up the debris in that part of the yard yet. Maybe today......but I was so tired yesterday I don't want to over do it. I could barely move yesterday.
