:) Agreed, absolutely incredible place. Quite hypnotic, I spent ages going round and round it, passing under all those arches. Very peculiar contrast, as you say, between the harmonic simplicity of the mosque architecture, and the very grand and ostentatious cathedral that seems to rise up from nowhere out of the floor (although for real OTT ornate, see the Cartuja in Granada  ). I also liked sitting among the orange trees in the courtyard outside. Really memorable place.

As Whoop says a wonder if people could work together today with Cordoba as an example and also the similar marvel at the Alhambra. But the bigoted Ferdinand and his missus knocked that on the heid, and Spain was very much the poorer (socially speaking) for it.

2 towers.

What beautiful architecture in the above photos, reminds me of the late `60s -

those patterns.

Thank you for the information about the Cordoba Synagog, thank goodness it survived as a hospital.

Was the civilization that built the Islamic cities of S. Spain Arab or Moorish or both?

Compare this to Sauniere`s Masonic collar. This is the group that was active in Girona also.

She's the sister.

hmm...two different accounts of his nephew there.

I reckon Joseph Pagés was a bit dodgy...he seemed to have asked his uncle Bérenger for the loan of money more than once.

mardi 8 mai 1900 : PAGES Joseph Couiza demande prêt d'argent
lundi 28 mai 1900 : PAGES Joseph à Couiza 2e demande d'argent

and another thing ...why do people call this Joseph Pagés the nephew of Gélis when he seems to be the nephew of Saunière ?

Ah...so Saunière's nephew is married to Gélis' niece ?

AFAIK he became "nephew" only by marriage. And wasn't Saunières nephew.

And was it Joseph Pages that found the priests body or Ernest Pages? seems to be some confusion there as well.

Hi Egi, yes, i've got that are there maybe two Joseph Pagés ?

le neveu de Bérenger, Joseph Pagés, employé aux Ponts et Chaussées de Limoux, fils de Oscar et Mathilde Pagés....seated second right next to his Aunt Marie Louise who was married to M. Marty seated on the left.
Image

This is the same Joseph Pagés who is the son of Saunière's sister and who tried to source a builder of a "Kiosque mauresque" for his uncle Bérenger back in May 1914.
Quote:
Cher oncle,
.

so, question....is this the same Joseph Pagés as the Joseph Pagés "époux de Françoise la nièce de L’abbé Gélis." (husband of Françoise the niece of abbé Gélis) and if so...why does it not come up in conversation.

Apparently she's a ventriloquist.

are we talking about two different men here, because the niece of Gélis is marked as being married to Joseph Pagés a viticulteur at Coustaussa while Saunière's nephew is down as a "Conducteur Ponts et Chaussées à Limoux ".

...however maybe not, because Joseph Pagés Françoise's husband, apparently voiced a need to change his vocation and get away from the vines, so perhaps he went on to work as a driver on the Ponts & Chaussées scheme ?

hmm....how many nephews did our abbé have....?
Quote:

so, i take it that this nephew could be Joseph Pagés again.

A magic square in stained glass - which planet does this represent?

Is that a magic square? I thought a magic square had to contain sequential numbers starting at 1. Also each column/row/diagonal has to add up to the same number (expressed as (n(n^2+1))/2) - so a 4 grid would be ((4*(16+1))/2) = 34.

Leave it to you to add up those numbers jlockest! I guess the artist didn`t know the specs

of a magic square.

Who was in Girona and in Rennes-le-Chateau and was a member of the Society?

Did an Austrian write Ben`s imperfect French?
