The North East's largest wind farm lies within the South West wind corridor of County Durham, with many more in the planning stage.

The Irish-owned Electricity Supply Board (ESB) has admitted that the West Durham wind array, near Tow Law, County Durham, has not been working since 18 May.
The Northern Echo reports a company spokesman as saying that, “a local network outage” had caused the £30m scheme to shut down and that an inspection had revealed the need for further work.*
The West Durham scheme is North-East’s largest. ESB could not say when it will be running again.
