Back to my original point. What exactly does - "Consider Cros AND secrétaire" mean when Cros IS the secrétaire. And why would he consider it necessary to record the occupation of a man he's just seen?

And what does the whole line mean? Why didn't Sauniere record the reason he had seen/considered these people?
