As regrettably I do not speak French, this would be an unjustifiable expense for me. Why don't you do us all a favour Mr Norton, scan all the references to which you are referring and post them? If indeed a credible source (and someone needs to accredit Bedu) can show that BS wrote "secret" consistently as an abbreviation for "secretary", it would add considerable weight to your argument. Your failure to do this merely adds a like weight to the improbability of your position. It's quite simple really.

If you bought Bedu's book, all you would need to do was to look for the reproductions of the word "secret" from Sauniere's archives. You do know how to read "Secret" ?

And like Mr Smith, I look at the primary sources rather than read about them in other books.

Here's a primary source:

Bless me it says the word Secret.

Hey one might think he meant to say the word

Secret

N'est-ce Pas?

And Minnie Mouse is Micky's girlfriend.

Both statements are equally relevant.

I'm sorry to come in late on this discussion about the word "secret" (and, as you can see, I am new here), but can you tell me where I can find a picture of the whole page where "Vu Cros et Secret" is written.

Many thanks

Pierre Pradel was the secret(ary) to Cros.
Two different people.

Minnie Mouse and Micky Mouse are two different characters also

But I can state with absolute certainty that the last word here:

Says SECRET
And absolutely nothing else.

Please stop trying to replace a FACT with an unsubstantiated GUESS

Here try this for keeping your house of cards together

"Vu Cros et secret(aire)".

"Met Cros and his secret(ary)".

That's

Cros rencontré et son secrétaire

You're even making up the translation.

This is like shooting rats in a barrel. I'm enjoying this. You'll make yourself look stupid rather than accept a FACT that is right in front of you.

How long will it be before we get the Mad Hell Dog here?

Good point Jean Vié - I found this on the Rennes-le-Chateau-archive website:

Thanks for that. You'll notice that Sauniere meticulously placed every single accent in it's place.

Well I can clearly see an accent in curé, Névian, Gélis and Carrière but I can't see one in Secret. Would a French person drop the accent when abbreviating a word? VAM

Doubt it. What would he do if he really meant to say the word Secret? A word that he may use a lot since he was a priest who takes confessions.

But this isn't the point is it? Until it can be positively ascertained that Sauniere meant to say Secrétaire and that he did indeed see Cros and Pradel that day then we have to apply Occams Razor (that should annoy him) and the simplest explanation is that as he wrote down the word Secret then Sauniere must have meant the word Secret.

His argument is dead in the water but he hangs on to the threads like a little boy hanging on to his marbles.

Is it not possible that "Secret" is another surname?

What? As in Squirrel?

I'm wondering that if Sauniere said the word Secret that he may have actually meant Secret, But hey what do I know.

But you may have something.

All those years ago when that girl said to me.

"I wouldn't be seen dead with you"

She really meant:

"Hey you hunk, come here, you're the man of my dreams."

Works for me.

What a load of incompetent rubbish from someone who uses Babelfish to "translate" French (fatal).

Stick to forging "tombs" decorated with artifacts purchased from e-Bay.

Sauniere did not always use the accent when using "secret" as an abbreviation for "secretaire" - it's all in Bedu's book.

I was directing this question to any of our competent French speakers in this forum. I wasn't having a go at you Mr Norton so perhaps you would kindly climb back out of my throat!

I would also like to point out that I have never been to any tomb (although I CAN recommend ebay - especially for ostrich feathers!) and I have only once passed through the South of France on my way to Spain.

VAM

I personally am going to be sorry when you go. But I fear it isn't long now.

Roscoe, you have caused me to titter on more than one occasion today - it's getting a bit freaky now! Image

The only rule on this forum is that you must NOT call Hugo Soskin boring. Apart from that - anything goes!

That was me and I apologise.

Wake me up when he's finished.
